Beyoğlu'nda Gizli bir Ege'li...Eleos / Aegean Breeze in Beyoglu...Eleos

Mavi beyaz renk kombinasyonuna her zaman bayılmışımdır. Bana yazı ve güzel Akdeniz sahillerini hatırlatıyor. Beyoğlu'nda tarihi Hıdivyal Palas'ın içinde saklı Eleos bu hissiyatı İstanbul'a taşımayı başarmış. Mavi beyaz dekor Rum meyhane kültürü ve Ege'nin leziz yemekleri ile birleşince insanın içini ısıtan, neşeli bir mekan çıkmış ortaya. Haydarpaşa'dan Boğaziçi'ne, Kız Kulesi'nden Selimiye'ye harika bir manzara da olunca bir çoğumuzun vazgeçilmezi oluyor Eleos.

I've always loved the blue and white color combination. It reminds me of summer and the beautiful Meditteranean coast. Hidden in the historical Hidivyal Palace building in Beyoglu, Eleos manages to bring out this feeling in the center of Istanbul. The blue and white color decor, tavern ambiance, and delicious tastes from the Meditteranean on the menu all together create a cozy and cheerful restaurant. You can't tell from outside, but Eleos has a wonderful view of the Bosphorus and the old town. Hence, it's understandable why this is such a favorite spot to many.

Michelin Yolunda...Mimolett / Michelin Star in Disguise...Mimolett

İstanbul'un Michelin yıldızlı bir restoranı olacaksa o kesinlikle Mimolett olmalı. Açılışından bu yana neredeyse üç sene geçmiş olmasına rağmen bir çoğumuzun bırak ziyaret etmeyi, adını bile duymadığı bir yer burası. Oysa ki Mimolett, NY Times dahil, bir çok mecrada yer almış, 2010 yılında Time Out tarafından "En iyi Yeni Restoran" ödülünü kazanmış. Gastronomik anlamda Türkiye'de bir ilke imza atmış, dünyaca ünlü Michelin yıldızlı restoranlarla yarışır hale gelmiş. Sadece yemek değil, atmosfer anlamında da büyülü bir yer. İstanbul'dan bir anda uzaklaşıp kendinizi Avrupa'nın saklı bir köşesinde romantik bir akşam yemeğinde hissetmek istiyorsanız havalar bozmadan Mimolett'in yolunu tutmalısınız.

It is sad to admit that Turkey doesn't have any Michelin restaurant. But if it was to have one,  it would have to be Mimolett.  Despite having been opened for almost two years now, Mimolett is still unknown to many. Yet, it was mentioned in many publications, including the NY Times, as well as received "The Best New Restaurant" award by Time Out in 2010. From a gastronomic standpoint, Mimolett has added something totally new to Turkey and, as a result, managed to open the doors for a whole new market of Michelin's.

Çayeli'nden Öteye.../ Beyond Urban Life...Eastern Blacksea

Bayram tatili için termometre 30 derecenin üstünü gösterince uzun zamandır merak ettiğimiz bir yere gitmek için fırsat doğdu. Nem ve sıcaktan uzak, ülkemizin oksijen deposu, güzel Karadeniz. Hayalimizde tüm sahili gezmek vardı ama sadece 3.5 günümüz olunca bu seferlik Trabzon'un doğusunda karar kıldık ve Trabzon, Rize ve Artvin üçlüsünden oluşan özel bir tur hazırladık. Gün gün ne yaptıktan ziyade deneyimlediklerimiz doğrultusunda nerede kalmalı, nerede neler yemeli ve neler yapılmalı şeklinde yazdık bu postu. Yine de program konusunda yardım isterseniz seve seve yardımcı oluruz. Doğu Karadeniz'den büyülendik, umarım size de bu duyguları aktarmayı başarırız.

When the thermometer showed 30 degrees plus for the Ramadan break, we took the opportunity to schedule a trip for a place we so long had been aspiring to visit: Eastern Black Sea. Because we only had 3.5 days, we had to limit ourselves to only a few places and hence, decided on the east of Trabzon, i.e. Trabzon, Rize, and Artvin. Rather than writing what we did, day by day, we divided the post into three parts: where to stay, what to eat where, and what to do. If you would still need help planning, we'd be more than happy to help. Eastern Black Sea is beyond beautiful. Hopefully, we'll be able to share some of its wonders with you.

Cihangir'de bir Yolculuk...Journey / A Great "Journey" in Cihangir

İki iftar yazısının üstüne hepimizin çok sevdiği o güzel kahvaltılara geri dönmek istiyorum. Karaköy, Bebek, Yeniköy ve Nişantaşı'ndaki kahvaltı mekanlarına geniş yer verdik blogumuzda; oysa ki semt olarak bayıldığım, her köşe başında bir cafesi bulunan Cihangir hakkında bir tane bile kahvaltı mekanı yazısı yazmadığımızı fark ettim. O yüzden Ramazan biter bitmez koşarak keşfe çıktık; Cihangir'lilerin favorisi Journey'e gittik.

Following two iftar (breaking of the fast) posts, I think it's time to go back to our favorite meal of the day: breakfast. We have written many posts on breakfast spots in Nisantasi, Karakoy, Bebek, and Yenikoy, but realized we've missed a neighbourhood that is actually known for its cafes and lively crowd: i.e. Cihangir. The moment Ramadan was over, we woke up early on a weekend day and went to explore the streets of Cihangir and found ourselves at Journey: one of the favorites in the area.

Rüya Gibi Bir İftar...Four Seasons Sultanahmet/ A Feast Dream Come True...Iftar at Four Seasons Sultanahmet

Ramazan'ın bitmesine az kaldı. Haftalardır evde ve dışarıda iftarlara katılıyor, muhteşem yemekler yiyoruz. Yavaş yavaş eski düzenimize dönüp, onlarca çeşit yemek ve tatlıdan oluşan sofraları geride bırakacağız. Ama siz de benim kadar yemeğe düşkünseniz, bu lezzetler bir süre daha aklınızda kalacak; tekrar Ramazan olsa da yine iftar sofralarında buluşsak diye düşüneceksiniz. Umarım bu yazı anılarınızı daha da canlı tutmaya yardımcı olacak. Katıldığım en güzel iftar yemeklerinden birisi: Four Seasons Sultanahmet.

The month of Ramadan is almost finished. For weeks, we have been enjoying amazing iftars (breaking of fast) with various foods and desserts on the table. Now it is slowly coming to an end. But if you are as much of a food lover as I am, the memories will last for some time. In hope of keeping them alive, I've prepared this post with lots of pictures. One of the best iftars ever attended: Four Seasons Sultanahmet.

Hamdi Restaurant'ta İftara Beş Kala.../ Iftar at Hamdi Restaurant

Geç de olsa bir iftar yemeği yazısı yazmadan geçiremezdim Ramazan'ı. Bir kaç yeri değerlendirdikten sonra İstanbul'un en iyi iftar sofralarından biri seçilen Hamdi Restaurant'ta karar kıldık. Gerek manzara, gerek konum itibariyle çok popüler olan mekan, tarihi camilerle çevrilmiş olması nedeniyle bize Ramazan duygusunu   en güzel şekilde hissettirdi.

We are currently in the time of Ramadan, the holy month of blessing. The time for prayer, fasting, and charity...With the fasting, comes also the iftar, i.e. the breaking of the fast. Many Turkish restaurants prepare menues special to the iftar. Having a lot to pick from, we decided on Hamdi; a restaurant not only popular for its food but also for its location and beautiful view. It's the best place for a tourist to experience the feeling and atmosphere of the fast.

Bodrum'un Beş Yıldızı.../ The Five Stars of Bodrum

Bodrum bir çoğumuzun favori tatil mekanlarından birisi. Bu nedenle de sınırsız otel, restoran ve bar seçenekleri bulunuyor. Her birini yazmaya kalksam ne param dayanır, ne de sizin sabrınız :). Bu yüzden en çok sevdiklerimden beşini belirleyip sizlerle bu yazıda paylaşıyorum. Buyrunuz, Bodrum'un beş yıldızı...

If you've ever thought about visiting Turkey in summer, you must have come across Bodrum during your research. This vibrant town on the west coast is a popular travel destination for the locals as well as tourists from all over the world. Having spent literally every summer there growing up, I've seen restaurants, bars, and hotels open and close, only to be replaced by new ones. There wouldn't be enough time and money in the world (at least for me) to write about all of them. Hence, I've prepared a list of my top five Bodrum stars...
