If there's one thing Turks are famous for; it's for their doner kebap. It's possible to find a kebab buffet on almost every corner of Istanbul. But not all are that good. One that has gained reputation as one of the best doner places in Istanbul, is the 10 year old Bayramoglu Doner in Kavacik. Serving hundreds of people every day, the restaurant is known equally much for its doner, as it is for its lavash.
Don't be scared of the extreme crowd inside. They'll get you seated within 5-10 minutes with fries, salad, and pickles on the table soon after.
The fries are homemade, something we love in Turkey. Crispy and golden colored with a nostalgic feel of having been prepared by mom.
Balıkçı Kahraman'ınki oldu.
The tomato salad comes in separate bowls, according to the number of people on the table. It's pretty simple, with only tomatoes, cucumber, green pepper, and lots of olive oil. But the vegetables are fresh and tasty; hence, so is the salad.
There's isn't much into the pickles, as they are bought from outside and suppress the flavor of the doner.
As for the doner, it's cooked on real wooden fire, as opposed to many other doner spits, which are cooked on electric fires. That, in addition to the thinness, and the quality of the meat, makes this doner so special and wanted.
At Bayramoglu, they bring chopped white onions with sumach, for you to have with the doner. Personally, I think it spoils the flavor of the meat, but it's up to you to try.
The waiter just kept bringing warm lavash over and over. I'd happily have it with honey and cream as a dessert.
Yakında Kuzguncuk Metet Döner'i deneyeceğim. Bakalım o nasıl olacak.
Besides doner, they only serve soup and rice, which is not needed anyways. The desserts are baklava and rice pudding, but since we didn't have any, I won't be able to comment on those. The prices are normal, with one serving of doner for 14TL (including the salad and chips).
